Summertime Stains

Hello everyone, summer is in full swing and we hope everyone is enjoying this time of the year when warm weather reigns, the sun shines longer, and we can all spend more time outdoors doing the things we love. Summer seams to come with its own set of fun activities like hiking, eating ice cream, having picnics and barbecues, and going swimming. These things all can cause their own unique stains to clothes, but that’s no reason to not enjoy this wonderful time of year. Go ahead and enjoy your summer and we’ll help you take care of any summertime stains you might encounter!

Grass Stains: grass stains are very common during the summer months and come in many varieties. Luckily, they are fairly simple to remove. For really tough grass stains we recommend soaking the garment in a bowl of warm water with a small amount of laundry detergent for about 30 minutes and then simply follow the normal launder instructions.

Mud Stains: little ones are bound to get muddy during their summer adventures. The best way to treat these stains is to let the mud dry and then remove as much of the mud as possible with a utensil. Once that is complete, wet the affected area, apply a small amount of detergent and rub the stain out. Once you’ve treated the stain launder normally.

Ice Cream Stains: ice cream is both delicious and dangerous, so be careful when you’re enjoying this summer treat. If you get an ice cream stain we recommend soaking the garment in cool water for 10 minutes. After that rub some detergent into the stain followed by 30 more minutes of soaking in room temperature water. Finally, apply some sort of spot remover for 7-10 minutes before laundering normally.

Ketchup/Mustard Stains: It’s difficult to have a proper barbecue without ketchup and mustard present, and stains are bound to happen here. First of all, scrape away the excess condiment, and then run the affected area under cool water. Next, rub the stain out with detergent, working your way from the outside of the stain inward. For white garments you may try applying some lemon juice or white vinegar as a bleaching element. Of course, launder as normal once the stain is removed.

Sunscreen Stains: These stains may happen during your day at the beach or pool, and fortunately it doesn’t take much to conquer them. We recommend applying a spot remover to the stain, and then pretreating by rubbing it with warm water and detergent before washing it normally.

Happy summer to everyone, and now that you know how to handle the stains, have fun out there without worrying!

May is Allergy Awareness Month, just in time for the usual slew of allergens to return in the spring time. With 1 in 5 Americans suffering from either allergy or asthma symptoms, we need to do all we can to ensure we have clean homes to reduce the effects of these illnesses. Chem-Dry specializes in exactly that. We fight allergens and make your home cleaner and healthier to make the transition into spring easier on you and your family. Aside from having your home cleaned by us there are additional steps you can take to reduce the effects of the season:

Spring Cleaning: By keeping your home clean and tidy you can help reduce the amount of allergens and dust mites that exist in your home. Do simple things like emptying the trash daily, washing your bedding often, changing the filter in your furnace and air conditioner, and getting rid of any mildew. You’ll be surprised how such simple changes can make a big difference.

Keep Allergens at Bay: Part of the problem is that allergens cling to us and follow us into our homes. One way to keep them at bay is to remove your shoes, jacket, and hat when you enter the home. This way you leave them at the door instead of allowing them to tag along through the rest of the house. Another smart tip is to bathe at night, or even simply wash your hair before bed. This keeps your sleeping area clean and allergen free, which will allow you to get great sleep and wake up refreshed each day!

Pet Control: We all love our pets, but they are a common cause of allergies. There are some simple things you can do to reduce the allergy effects of having a pet while still being able to have them as part of your family. You’ll want to keep your pets off of couches, beds, and other living areas and ensure you clean up after them regularly. This includes bathing them on a regular basis. Your pets are lucky to have you, and following these simple tips can allow you to enjoy them without suffering from allergies.

With so many carpet cleaners to choose from, it can sometimes be hard to stand out from the rest. Steven's Chem-Dry not only provides the best bang for your buck, but we also use powerful cleaning solutions, leaving your carpets cleaner and healthier. We have pioneered a unique process that utilizes the power of carbonation to restore your carpets to their original look and feel.

If you have ever poured a carbonated drink into a glass, you know that carbonation has inherent “lifting” qualities. Because of this, the bubbles in your drink will always rise to the top. The carbonation in our solutions produces an explosive reaction with your carpet, penetrating deeply and releasing dirt and grime from individual fibers. The carbonated method blasts these unwanted particles to the top level of your carpet, where they are safely extracted using our proprietary hot water extraction. Our proprietary solutions remove all unwanted particles from your carpet completely, leaving you with the most thorough, most healthy, and the most satisfying clean available anywhere

With steam cleaners, though, they use high amounts of water to soak your carpet and "clean" them. Dirt and moisture are forced into your carpet creating a breeding ground for mold, mildew, and bacteria. It may appear clean for a time, but it isn't a lasting clean. Not to mention that all that water dumped into your carpet will mean they won't be dry for days to come. Now compare that to the Steven's Chem-Dry clean that will leave your clean carpets dry in just 1-2 hours since we use just a fraction of the moisture. That is 24 times quicker than the competition, letting you get back to life quicker. That’s effective cleaning provided by Steven's Chem-Dry.

It is good to have clean carpets but knowing when to call a professional carpet cleaning service can save you a lot of time and money. Even though most carpet cleaners will run to your home to fix the stain when you call, we're here to tell you that many stains will come up easily with a few easy steps and save you some money. Because we care about our customers, we are happy to part with our spot cleaning secrets.

You might think this remedy too simple, but many spots and stains just need to be dampened and blotted with a clean, white towel. Be cautious when using this technique that you do not wipe or scrub.  This can damage your carpet and cause the stain to bleed into the surrounding carpet that was previously unstained. By firmly but carefully blotting the stain, you can transfer the stain from the carpet to your towel. Check to see if the stain is "transferring" correctly from the carpet to the cloth. Stop the process if you can't see any darkening.

If hot water doesn't prove to be a success, the next step would be to try club soda. Using carbonation bubbles to explode dirt and stains from the carpet fibers, Steven's Chem-Dry's solutions work similar to club soda. Again, just dampen the carpet fiber and blot, checking for any transfer of the stain to your white towel. If you don't notice a difference in the stain, you'll know it is time to call the professionals at Steven's Chem-Dry. The Chem-Dry way uses years of experience, along with the world's best carpet cleaning solutions, to remove stains with ease. For a free estimate, call today!

We all know it is good to have your carpets professionally cleaned - but it's even more beneficial to know when to make an appointment. Simple home remedies may be the most effective and money saving option for many spots and stains, even though you won't hear that from most cleaning companies. Because we care about our customers, we are happy to part with our spot cleaning secrets.

Much to your surprise, one of the best ways to remove stains and spots is to dampen the stain with warm water and a white cloth and gently blot it with your cloth. Aggravating the spot with aggressive scrubbing or wiping will only worsen the spot. It may even cause fraying of the carpet fiber! Carefully blotting the stain can transfer the spot from the carpet to your white towel. Frequently check the towel for a change in color, to ensure that the stain is indeed being transferred. Discontinue the blotting process if the stain isn’t picking up.

Club Soda is the next agent to try if hot water didn't work. Steven's Chem-Dry's effective solution is based on the power of carbonation - just like club soda. The properties that are found in carbonation make it a powerful cleaning agent. This process is similar to the warm water process. Just dampen the carpet with the club soda and blot the stain checking for transfer often If you don't see any improvement, you'll know it's time to call Steven's Chem-Dry. Our innovative and unique method uses a solution to break down unwanted particles from individual fibers, making us the most thorough and best choice for stain removal. Don't let your carpet absorb the stain too long - call Steven's Chem-Dry today!

Summer can be a lot of fun! Unfortunately, trying to keep your house clean when your kids feel the same way can be a daunting task. Now that summer is over and the kids will be back in school, the mess will be much easier to stay on top of. Call us and we can take care of those summer messes for you!

Once you experience the Chem-Dry difference of a Drier, Cleaner, Healthier home you won't ever be satisfied with less. Steven's Chem-Dry's approach to cleaning carpets is better than the competition. Instead, we use a hot carbonating extraction system, which is a drier method, meaning less water is used. Not only does our carbonated solution allow a deeper clean, but it also allows us to use 80% less water so you'll have dry times in just a couple of hours rather than a couple of days! Call us today to learn more!

For people with allergies, summer can be more miserable than relaxing. To keep your home allergy-free during pollen season, it’s important to routinely and thoroughly clean your carpets and furniture. By relying on Steven's Chem-Dry, you can make your home clean and safe from allergies when you most need it.

On a daily basis, carpets will collect allergens, dust, germs and other unwanted, irritating and otherwise harmful particles that can spread illness and cause allergic reactions. As opposed to steam cleaning, which uses water to hide the mess, Steven's Chem-Dry professionals use a unique carbonated solution to remove unwanted particles from individual carpet fibers and lift them to the surface, where they can be safely and completely removed. Though we can’t stop the allergens outside your home, try us to relieve your symptoms within your home!

Steven's Chem-Dry is primed and ready to partner with you for this year’s Spring Cleaning! Clearing out unused items and cleaning up your home helps us feel better. But more importantly, a deep spring cleaning in your home can help your family stay healthy and allergy-free this summer.

Most households can easily have a buildup of dust and dirt that are tracked in during the winter months. In addition, germs from colds, flu viruses and other illnesses stay stagnant in your home when the windows are closed. Opening your windows helps freshen the air, but it doesn’t help clear out the buildup of dust, dirt and germs that has built up in your carpets. Spring and summer can also bring mild or extreme allergies for many people. Over 50 million Americans suffer from allergies. Doing a complete spring cleaning can decrease allergy symptoms by removing dust, mites, bacteria and other allergens hiding on indoor surfaces, carpets, and upholstery.

Cleaning all surfaces, including hard-to-reach and hidden areas can reduce the allergens in your home. Cleaning blinds and removing unused bedding and plush toys can help as well.

We can help your deep spring cleaning efforts by:
- Deep cleaning your carpets, rugs, and upholstery. Our services help remove the hidden allergens in your carpets, and furniture.
- Applying our Sanitizer and Dust Mite Allergen Treatment. These products can keep your carpet free of dust mites for an extended time.

You may have a big family, or live alone. Either way, you have many more roommates than you can see.  Every time you leave your home, you track bacteria from outside into your carpets and onto your furniture. While this is just part of life, there are precautions that you can take to stop the spreading of these germs from your couch or your area rug to a dropped cookie or the fingers of a small child.

Chem-Dry uses a carbonated cleaning technique that is minimally invasive to your carpet fibers. We use 80% less water than our competitors, yet our powerful equipment extracts way more dirt and grime than any other carpet cleaning company out there. Also, our process provides you with a deeper clean, while maintaining a shorter drying time. That means there is less time for the bacteria and mold growing deep in your carpets and furniture to multiply and thrive on the moisture.

No one likes a roommate that skips out on rent. Don’t fall victim to the nasty mold stains or bacteria-filled carpets that could creep up on your before you know it!

It’s important to stay informed about your carpet’s warranty. According to an article by Tom Wolfe from Impressions Carpet Services, “A percentage of what you paid for your carpet went to cover the anticipated costs to the manufacturer for warranty claims. [These] claims are more often than not the result of poor, or improper, maintenance. Over the last few years, carpet manufacturers have begun to tie warranties to required maintenance by the carpet purchaser.

This means that whether you are in the market for new carpet or not, you need to be aware that the requirements are become more strict for warranties. “The bottom line is that proper maintenance will help you get a greater return on your carpet investment, no matter when it was purchased,” the article goes on to say.

Some of the main issues that manufacturers are addressing fall into 4 categories:

1. The proper cleaning method.
Most carpet mills require the Hot-Water Extraction Cleaning process, which is the method that Chem-Dry uses to give your carpets a deep clean without damaging the carpet fibers.

2. The proper cleaning schedule.
As a general rule, all major manufacturers have a minimum requirement that carpets be cleaned every 1-2 years. (keep your receipts as proof)

3. The proper cleaning system.
Your carpets should be cleaned professionally by equipment that is tested and certified with the Carpet and Rug Institute. All Chem-Dry equipment is certified and rated GOLD with the CRI, providing your home with the best technicians and equipment to get your carpets cleaner than ever.

4. The proper cleaning technician.
The single most important aspect in proper cleaning is to get the right person to do the job. All Chem-Dry technicians are trained and certified to deliver amazing results, while maintaining efficiency and staying affordable.

Stick with these handy rules to stay up to date with your warranty and keep your carpet looking great – FOREVER!
